“Exquisitely Hostile” Meets “Gently Unsettling”: Nate Wooley and Pigeon Breeders
Pigeon Breeders: Will Scott Tyler Harland, Myles Bartel
Nate Wooley, trumpet
Pigeon Breeders are an experimental trio, started in 2011, specializing in improvised music that incorporates ambient, electroacoustic, noise, and psychedelic elements. Their music has spent several weeks on the CJSR Top 30, and they have been receiving critical acclaim. Their sound has been described as “Gently unsettling washes of sound … Intelligent, beautiful sonic art.”
Nate Wooley has become one of the most in-demand trumpet players in the burgeoning Brooklyn jazz, improv, noise, and new music scenes. He has performed regularly with such icons as John Zorn, Anthony Braxton, Fred Frith, Evan Parker, and Yoshi Wada. A combination of vocalization, extreme extended technique, noise and drone aesthetics, amplification and feedback, and compositional rigor has led one reviewer to call his solo recordings “exquisitely hostile”. Dave Douglas has called him “one of the most interesting and unusual trumpet players living today, and that is without hyperbole”.
General Admission $20, Students/Seniors $15, NME members $10
Available at Tix on the Square or at the door

An Evening of audio/video synthesis with Egyptrixx & BORYS special Guests
WIND ROSE/Shawn Pinchbeck/Pigeon Breeders/SkruntSkrunt & DJ Nik 7
Toronto’s Egyptrixx makes celestial club music; jeep music for a Saturn desert. There is an exhilarating right-but-wrong tension in all the tracks – a shifting balance between melodic and dissonant, rapturous and antisocial. His releases challenge the status quo and impress with a unique style informed by elements of techno, house, heavy metal, pop and drone music. His debut album, ‘Bible Eyes’ was released in March of 2011 to critical acclaim from Pitchfork, The Wire, Spinner, Fader, and many others.
Borys will be performing a audio/visual set on modular synthesizer. Come celebrate the release of his EP Greenspan & Borys “God Told Me To” on UK’s Jiaolong label.. Experience the darker corners of the dancefloor, and witness live modular synthesis where waveforms are seen as well as heard.
WIND ROSE is a project of Edmonton artist Gary James Joynes. If you were lucky enough to experience his 12 tones installation or his live A/V piece Peregrination you will want to see WIND ROSE!!!
This marks the first time Joynes will be dropping his amazing visual aesthetic during a WIND ROSE set. This is not to be missed!!
Shawn Pinchbeck-Since 1984, Shawn Pinchbeck has been active as an electroacoustic composer, sound artist, performer, installation artist, teacher, curator, sound engineer, and consultant. His works often incorporate many multimedia elements integrating video, live performers, dance, computer interactivity, and multi-channel sound systems. He is currently on tour in Europe with Mile Zero Dance.
SkruntSkrunt is the project of Dr. Abram Hindle, who will be performing a audio/video set of live coding. Through aggressive coding techniques we get to see SkruntSkrunt blur the lines of academia and art.
